Newfriars College runs a successful Supported Internship (employability) programme at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (UHNM). From September 2024 the programme is growing, and we are recruiting an additional member of our Job Coach team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a programme which is transforming the lives of young adults with SEND by preparing them for employment. The programme runs from September to July each year and has an amazing success rate getting our young people into secure employment. It is rewarding and every day is different.

If you are interested in working with young people with SEND and supporting them to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need in employment then this could be the role for you. You will need to have excellent communication skills; be a great team player; to be flexible and ready to take on new challenges every day; you will need to be a good problem-solver and ready to be flexible. You will need to be proactive and ready to advocate for our young people as well as expecting them to grow in their confidence as they become increasingly independent. You will be enjoy working in a varied and dynamic environment and be able to support young people to develop their preparation for adulthood skills alongside their work placements.

You will be based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (UHNM). You will be supporting young people to develop the core employability skills they need to be successful in work as well as supporting learners on their placements and monitoring their progress. You will undertake training at the hospital and be part of a supportive team.

Please note while this role is specifically to support the UHNM Supported Internship programme, this is a generic ‘Job Coach’ contract, and you may be required to support learners on other supported internship programmes run by the college as appropriate. You may also be asked to support the college’s wider work experience placements as appropriate.

As a member of Newfriars College, you will also benefit from:

  • Being part of a supportive team
  • Local Government pension scheme
  • Access to health and wellbeing support via Occupational Health
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Access to a wide range of CPD and training opportunities
