Why Shaw Education Trust ?

We know our people are the key to our success and so we’re committed to ensuring the employment experience at Shaw Education Trust is a rewarding one

To support our employees in maintaining this level of excellence and help them to achieve their career goals, we offer regular upskilling and training opportunities, no matter their role or level of leadership.

The well-crafted continuous professional development (CPD) we provide benefits not only the individual staff member, but their profession, the organisation, and most importantly the students and young people in our schools too.

To enable all our employees to easily access quality CPD, we established the Institution of Education which provides a wide range of training and research-based opportunities aimed at continually developing staff knowledge and practice. These sessions cover a variety of teaching and operational topics, from curriculum development and leadership skills, to premises management and first aid.

We also encourage collaboration within and between our academies, creating a community of professionals who share a wide range of valuable experience and specialist knowledge. This is supported through our creation of a network of ‘hubs’ across our schools, covering all teaching subjects and operational areas. Our regular hub meetings enable staff members to stay up-to-date with latest guidance and skills, as well as collaborate and practice share with others from different school settings.

As members of our Trust family, our employees receive a range of benefits, including:

  • An excellent Local Government Pension Scheme or Teachers Pension Scheme.
  • Generous holiday entitlement from the first day of employment (29 days holiday rising to 31 days after 5 years’ service + Paid Bank Holidays). Teaching staff receive the standard school holiday allowance.
  • Health and wellbeing support via the Occupational Health service
  • An innovative Cycle to Work scheme
  • Our Cycle to Work scheme enables employees to purchase brand-new bicycles and cycling equipment via salary sacrifice, making tax and National Insurance savings.
  • Fantastic opportunities to help their careers grow, contribute and flourish

Our Phases

Primary

We believe that everyone has the potential to be extraordinary!

To this end, our growing number of primary schools tirelessly pursue excellence through research-based collaboration and innovation. Our 3D Primary curriculum and pioneering Digital Strategy are designed to create inspirational, energetic and immersive learning experiences. These enable every child to flourish within a caring, stimulating and purposeful atmosphere; fully prepared for their next stage of life and learning.

We know that at primary school, the quality of teaching affects both children’s social behaviour and intellectual development. This stage of learning has a greater impact on children’s academic progress than any other. Recognised through extensive research, it is the importance of early experiences and the powerful combination of home, pre-school and primary school partnerships that set the foundations enabling our amazing children and pupils to succeed.

Secondary

Across the Trust we pride ourselves on our innovative approach to curriculum design. We want our pupils, regardless of their starting points and barriers, to believe their curriculum is bold, exciting, purposeful, and ultimately leads to something meaningful for them.

We constantly seek to innovate and provide better opportunities to develop both knowledge and skills for life. This innovation comes in many forms, including extending school days to provide a world-class enrichment programme and additional opportunities for essential skills development; the introduction of vocational and technical pathways to develop work readiness in our pupils, supported by leading employers and universities; co-constructing curriculum across all EBacc subjects, to create world class programmes, rich in knowledge and skills; We are also driving PedTech across the sector, focusing on fully digitally enhanced curriculum and close to 1:1 device delivery.

We are currently at an exciting point in our evolution, with collaboration at the heart of our endeavour. We value the 'power of the pack' and strive as a collective, ensuring no school or colleague is left behind.

We take an evidence-informed approach to developing the quality of our teaching and learning and value a non-hierarchical, supportive approach to developing great teachers.

This approach has led to a significant reduction in workload, meaning colleagues can spend more time on curriculum delivery and fostering strong relationships with pupils.

As a people-focused trust, we consider the professional development of our staff as a fundamental responsibility. Where any schools face any barrier, it has the mutual support of the others to call upon for subject specific or general support. Our directors have a wealth of leadership experience and subject knowledge and support staff across the trust to design and the deliver the very best academic experience to our pupils.

SEND

Our Specialist settings cater for children and young people with a wide range of Specialist Educational Needs, including profound medical needs, sensory needs and emotional and mental health needs.

All the pupils within our Specialist settings have an individualised education and are educated in small classes and groups with enhanced support to ensure that all of their needs are met. There is nothing more rewarding than being part of a team that supports a child or young person with Specialist Educational Needs to reach their goals.

Teaching, support and operations rolls all provide a wonderful opportunity to work within an establishment that has a ‘family’ feel that puts the children, young people and their families at the heart of what they do. You truly will make a difference to the life of a young person and their family.
